Every year, during April, the media is gripped by marathon fever; the London Marathon is given massive publicity encouraging many people to start pounding the streets. Ware Joggers also gets excited about marathons but normally this excitement is tinged with trepidation! Many in the Club have spent the winter months preparing for the big occasion following training schedules prepared by our coaches and seeking advice and encouragement from Club Members with past experience in marathon running. We make a big deal of the London Marathon; every year we line the streets to shout encouragement to all our runners. We organise coach transport to the start line for our runners and supporters taking a lot of the pressure off from a potentially nervous time; the same coach returns us home with tired and, often, sore runners. A similar training regime starts during the summer for those that seek an autumn marathon. This year there is a Club outing to the Dublin Marathon, whilst other overseas' marathons, like New York , Amsterdam and Berlin have attracted members. Ware Joggers is a good place to join if you want to run your first marathon – proven training schedules, invaluable advice, long supported runs and training partners that create that bond of shared experience. Just remember, give yourself time to prepare for your marathon – 16 weeks minimum, preferable six months if you are an inexperienced runner – otherwise the marathon experience could become a nightmare on the day and your running career curtailed!!
