England Athletics

The national governing body for athletics in England. Every registered running club must affiliate as an organisation, and individual members can choose to join in their own right for additional benefits.

Club affiliation to England Athletics

In order to be registered as an official running club, Ware Joggers must affiliate as a club to England Athletics. This is a yearly subscription that ensures WJ is listed alongside the many hundreds of other running clubs in England.

This is entirely separate from individual membership of EA. Club affiliation gives us access to a range of courses, specific training opportunities, qualified trainers and up-to-date information.

Club affiliation is what gives Ware Joggers its official status and access to England Athletics resources, coaching qualifications and team competitions.

Individual membership of England Athletics

Individual members have the option to join EA at any time. This is explained to all new joiners and those completing the Beginners' Course. What you get is:

Insurance cover against any third-party liability (note: not personal accident)
Entitlement to claim a £2 reduction on entry fees for all races run under EA auspices — which is most races
Entitlement to enter the Ware Joggers ballot for London Marathon places — the number of places we receive is governed by how many of our members join EA
Membership of the governing body of our sport
A personal EA membership number on your membership card — this is the number you must quote when claiming the £2 race reduction

Can I claim the £2 reduction if I'm not a member?

No. Whilst it's unlikely there would ever be a query if you input the club number, we strongly disapprove — it could damage the club's reputation. Please only use your own personal EA number.

Association of Running Clubs

ARC is an organisation devoted purely to road running clubs. Ware Joggers pays a yearly subscription based on the number of members. There is no requirement for individual members to affiliate.

Why Ware Joggers affiliates to ARC

ARC's insurance cover extends across the whole membership and includes coaches and experienced runners who lead coached sessions — an important protection that EA club affiliation alone does not provide in the same way.

Insurance covers the whole membership, including coaches and session leaders
Cover is comparable to — and in some instances exceeds — that provided under EA
Around half of our members choose not to join EA individually. Without ARC membership, those members would have no insurance cover at all

ARC ensures every Ware Joggers member is covered, whether or not they hold individual EA membership — including all coaches and session leaders.

Hertfordshire County Amateur Athletic Association

The Hertfordshire County Amateur Athletics Association organises and coordinates competitive athletics events — including cross country, track and field, fell running, and race walking — for athletes across Hertfordshire and the surrounding region.

Benefits of affiliation to HCAAA

Here's what Ware Joggers get from affiliation:

Competition access — affiliated clubs can enter athletes into county championship events across a wide range of disciplines: cross country, track and field (indoor and outdoor), steeplechase, race walking, fell running, and combined events
County representation — athletes from affiliated clubs become eligible for selection to represent Hertfordshire in inter-county matches, such as the SEAA Senior Inter-County T&F and the CAU Inter-County Cross Country. This is a significant step up for developing athletes
Regional pathway — the HCAAA sits within the broader structure of England Athletics, SEAA (South of England AA), and Eastern AA, so affiliation connects a club to that wider competitive ladder — from county level up to national level
Shared events with neighbouring counties — several fixtures are run jointly with Middlesex, Kent, Bedfordshire, and Eastern AA, meaning affiliated clubs get access to a broader competitive calendar than Hertfordshire alone could offer

Ware Joggers love taking part in the Herts County Cross Country Championships - you don't need to be fast to enjoy the events!
